2012 Redesigned Volkswagen Beetle
by Kay Layne
Volkswagen recently released its newly designed Beetle. This 3rd generation “Love Bug” is trying to shed its cutesy image. The Beetle’s overall look is a touch more edgy and bold.
This new car is designed around the first original Beetle profile rather than the second generation. Gone is the semi circle design that was found on the front wing, rear wing and domed roof of the 1998 version.
Under the hood buyers will have three engines to choose from; a 2.5L gasoline five cylinder which produces 170 hp and 177 lbs.-ft of torque, a 2.0L four cylinder TSI® turbocharged gasoline engine which puts out 200 hp and 207 lbs.-ft of torque and a 2.0L TDI® Clean Diesel with 140 hp and 236 lbs.-ft of torque.
Transmission wise, drivers will have the choice of a 5-speed manual, 6-speed automatic or a 6-speed dual-clutch.
Pricing has not yet been released but 2012 Volkswagen Beetle is scheduled to roll in to a dealership near you this fall.
